Pastor Scott and Tammy McCain were both raised in a small southern town and grew up in the same Baptist church. Both were saved (separately) at 16 after making earlier professions of faith but seeing no real fruit of the Spirit. In 1994, the couple married; in 1995, they began ministry together at their alma mater, Heritage Christian School, a ministry of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C.
They served the Lord together at Northside Christian School in North Charleston, S.C. for a number of years. Scott worked for several years at Charleston Southern University and started his own business before returning to Northside part-time. In 2016, God called the McCains to Virginia; Scott served as youth pastor while Tammy continued teaching at a Christian academy preschool.
During their time in Hampton Roads, God burdened the McCains for the United Kingdom, specifically a primarily military congregation in Suffolk County, England. They completed deputation in just over 2½ years and served the Lord at Faith Baptist Church for almost two more. Tightened regulations from UK Visas and Immigration terminated the sponsorship license of the couple sponsoring the McCains, and multiple avenues of remaining in the country resulted in the same dead end.
Upon returning from England in late 2023, Scott and Tammy sought the Lord’s will for His next station of service. The McCains were willing to go far and wide, logging trips to destinations that were one thousand, two thousand, and four thousand miles from home over the next ten months. All the while, God was preparing a place for them a little over 100 miles from their former home with a loving, godly congregation at Calvary Baptist Church in Midlothian. Upon the first meeting, it was evident that God had put this together: the McCains were just right for Calvary, and Calvary was just right for the McCains.
The McCains’ first Sunday at CBC was the first of 2025. What attracted them to the church was the Christ-honoring music and sound expositional preaching available to watch on live streaming. If you also like those, we think you might find a home here at Calvary. Please let us know if we can pray for you or minister to you in some way.
WE BELIEVE that the Bible is the Word of God, inspired and without error. It reveals to man his need, and the way to meet that need in Christ Jesus our Lord. It is the rule to every Christian for daily life. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:2l).
WE BELIEVE in the Triune God, and Jesus Christ the Son of God. We believe He came the first time to give His life a ransom for sin (I Corinthians 15:3; Romans l:l6). He is now our Advocate before God (I John 2:1). He is coming again (Titus 2:13; John 14:1-5; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
WE BELIEVE salvation is through Christ alone (Acts 4:12). Man is a sinner (Romans 3:23). He has no power to save himself (Titus 3:5). His need is the new birth (John 3:3). The only provision for salvation is in Christ crucified (I Peter 3:18). This salvation is by grace through faith, and not of works (Ephesians 2: 8-9). When one receives Christ he is a new creation (John l:l2 -13; II Corinthians 5:17), and is saved forever (John 3:36).
WE BELIEVE in the person and work of the Holy Spirit. He convicts of sin (John 16:8-11). He indwells, sanctifies, directs, teaches, infills the surrendered believer, and leads into service (I Corinthians 6:19-20; John 14:26; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 5:18).
WE BELIEVE in consecration and separation of those who know Christ as Lord and Saviour. Devotion to the Lord is the vital need of the church today (Romans 12:1-2;
II Corinthians 6:17).
WE BELIEVE that the Lord is able to meet every need of His own church., therefore we do not use extraneous methods for raising money, but seek the New Testament method of supporting the ministry of the Word (I Corinthians 16:2; 9:6-8; Philippians 4:19).
WE BELIEVE in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). We believe the church should carry out this commission to the best of its ability and in order to do so must be instant in season and out of season--giving itself both in personal testimony and resources to the end that every man might hear the Word of God in this day.
WE BELIEVE the whole Bible, and realize many things taught therein are not fully covered by the statements given above. However these are fundamental, and practically all Bible truth is interwoven in these brief but concise statements. They have proven to be precious as foundation stones of truth, and are significant as convictions upon which this church has been built, Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Corner Stone.
Having been led of the Lord, as we believe, to maintain a testimony for Him in Midlothian, Virginia, and feeling the necessity for a constitution to guide in business affairs of the church, we the members of the Calvary Baptist Church of Midlothian, Virginia adopt the following as our constitution, expressly rejecting and making void any other resolutions, plans of operations, plans, or constitutions that may have been in force in the past.
