Calvary's first members assembled at the Holly Inn Drugstore on Elkhardt Road.
In 1949, a group of citizens from Chesterfield had the desire and felt the need for a place of worship. In a Holly Inn drug store on Elkhardt Road, Calvary Baptist Church was established. At its inception, it held only Sunday morning services with an average of 25-30 attendees. The first pastor and founder was Benjamin O. Crump Jr.
Calvary purchased 10.7 acres of land from Ernest and Leslie Toombs in 1951. The groundbreaking for the building on our current property began at the start of 1953. When the first phase of building was complete, 80-85 attendees gathered for services. The second phase was completed by 1962.
In 1974, groundbreaking began for a larger sanctuary on the same land and, by the end of 1975, Calvary's current sanctuary was completed. The original church building was then transformed into a Fellowship Hall where Church functions and activities are still being held.

Our desire and prayers are that we reach Chesterfield County and the greater Richmond area with the gospel of Jesus Christ and that visitors and members find our Church to be a place of compassion and hope until Jesus returns.
